Alternative Investments

www.mickelsonlife.com Alternative Investments David Mickelson from Mickelson Capital Consulting. Todays topic is alternative investments. Stocks bonds and mutual funds experience so much volatility of late investors are very interested in taking a serious look at alternatives. These asset classes are traditionally not open to the average investor, but average investors are trying to knock down the door and find out if they can get in on these types of things. These alternatives are PIPE funds, which are private investment in public equity, Life Settlement funds, green energy deals, distressed debt, and oil and gas projects. One of the reasons theyre very popular is that they have very little correlation with the traditional markets. In addition alternatives like these are attractive because the volatility that people are afraid of may very well be even worse in the traditional markets and thats what weve seen in the last year. Now investors still must be accredited investors to invest in most of these types of alternatives, thats according to federal regulations. That [being an accredited investor] is a measure of net worth and / or income. Well these alternatives are becoming more mainstream because they have very attractive upsides, and may in fact be not as volatile as people had worried about, especially nowadays compared to traditional assets which have let people down. With that, thats todays message about alternative investments. Thank you for listening; Im David
